The studio aimed at deriving a spatial plan and urban design-oriented solution for the issues faced by the people of Forest Park, IL a western suburb of Chicago. Based on the background study, demographic analysis and community outreach the team devised the following approach -
“Focusing on three key areas of efficiency, inclusivity, and
sustainability the intervention - “Green Mutualism” is centered
on the connectivity of people with each other and their surroundings
for a site feasible to implement both green- and mobility-related
tactical strategies believed to bridge the gaps presented in the community.

Transportation Planning
Learning about the transportation history, current issues and use of data analysis to enhance transportation planning
Project overview- Two of the most important takeaways from the course were the meeting analysis and research on shared mobility trends in America. I noted the meeting minutes for the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) Freight Committee Meeting held via Zoom on December 7, 2020 in the meeting analysis. By attending this meeting, I learned a lot about the climate mitigation and adaptation strategies under the CMAP's on to 2050 program (which focuses on developing inclusive, resilient prioritized investment areas in Northeastern Illinois by the year 2050) and how the transportation sector can be a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and what strategies are available to mitigate this impact. Another significant study was the paper (below), which sought to understand the various shared mobility options available in the United States in addition to the mass transit system. Initially, the research focused solely on ride-hailing and how it is implemented in major cities, as well as the financial models that are applicable in these cities. The impact of this facility on personal vehicle and transit usage is then recognized. I then went into detail about ride-hailing and how shared/pool rides could be much more efficient in an urban setting, reducing overall vehicle miles traveled.
