The studio aimed at deriving a spatial plan and urban design-oriented solution for the issues faced by the people of Forest Park, IL a western suburb of Chicago. Based on the background study, demographic analysis and community outreach the team devised the following approach -
“Focusing on three key areas of efficiency, inclusivity, and
sustainability the intervention - “Green Mutualism” is centered
on the connectivity of people with each other and their surroundings
for a site feasible to implement both green- and mobility-related
tactical strategies believed to bridge the gaps presented in the community.

Revitalization of Neighborhood Streetscape
The goal of this project was to learn about the urban spatial organization, its physical form as it relates to the emergence and evolution of planning, to write and graphically express judgments on spatial organization, and lastly how different elements affect the urban environment. The proposal incorporates
the different types of neighborhood mapping methods like-
-
figure-ground
-
Kevin Lynch’s
-
cognitive mapping
-
serial vision technique
which helped me look at the surrounding urban space holistically.
The following maps and diagrams represent my interventions for a road network in a township in Mumbai, India.

Existing Plan in Rustomjee Urbania - Mumbai, India
AIM
Adopt the Covid-19 pandemic's impact on our perception of urban areas and the ways in which we use our homes and the areas around them. The proposed intervention took into account the following design goals
-Requirements of the target audience
-Better flow of spaces pertaining to social distancing
-Tangible and intangible distinction of areas
-Permanent and temporary spaces
-Conscious amount of construction
Design intervention
Background -Given the goal of the project, I chose the main street network in my neighborhood right
away due to its familiarity and the fact that I was aware of the street scape upgrading requirements, particularly in a post-pandemic world. Thus the site chosen for this intervention was located in Thane, a Suburb of Mumbai India. Despite being part of a planned township construction, the road lacked basic safety features including lane bifurcations. Also, the median between the lanes was as broad as a garden and needed to be improved with landscaping and street scaping to improve its utility. Based on these considerations, the following three part intervention was recommended for the chosen site. Proposed Intervention - The proposal divided the township road into 3 parts

Part A Plan

Socially distanced waiting space

New roundabout/ play area

View of the median and mural wall

Store front view
Part B Plan

Kids play area and sit out space

Dog Play area

Dog park

Landscape addition to the median

Part C Plan
Roller Skate Park

Retail Plaza

Working pods /Hammock area
Senior citizen park

Part A - developed as a social distanced street intervention around the existing grocery store and roundabout.
Part B - focused on development of the existing road medians into more diverse space by incorporating dog’s play area, more socially distanced seating arrangement and designated walking trails.
Part C - incorporated design intervention in the remaining two portions of the median and the public area around the pharmacy wherein it envisioned as a working pods, senior citizens park, kids play area with skating track. The proposal as a whole aims at including complete streets principles and recommends designated bike and and walking lane with demarcated road crossings.
